Pre-event sports massage (typically shorter, 30–45 minutes) is stimulating and preparatory: warming the muscles, increasing circulation, and enhancing neuromuscular readiness without inducing the deep relaxation that would be counterproductive before competition. Post-event massage (60–90 minutes) shifts focus to flushing metabolic waste, reducing delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS), and beginning the recovery process.
