Myofascial Massage
Sustained gentle pressure releases restrictions in the fascial connective tissue β effective for chronic pain, fibromyalgia, and posturalβ¦
Therapist uses overhead bars for balance while delivering broad, deep compression with bare feet β broad strokes, profound depth.
Ashiatsu (Japanese for “foot pressure”) is a style of massage in which the therapist uses overhead bars for support and balance while delivering massage strokes with their feet. The broad surface of the foot allows for deeper, more evenly distributed pressure than the hands and elbows can achieve β making Ashiatsu one of the deepest modalities available without the localized discomfort that can accompany elbow or thumb work.
The technique uses long, flowing compression strokes along the back and legs β stripping the erector muscles, compressing the glutes, and opening the thoracic spine with a level of depth that most clients describe as unlike anything they have experienced. The broad contact area distributes pressure across multiple muscle groups simultaneously, creating a sense of deep, comfortable heaviness rather than sharp point pressure.
Ashiatsu is particularly effective for large muscle groups, clients with dense musculature, anyone who feels that standard deep tissue doesn’t go deep enough, and those with chronic low back tension or thoracic restriction.
